The Church
Not just four walls. We are a faith community.
We are a place for everyone.
We love God and do our best to follow Jesus’ example. We are imperfect people, but strive to have a heart and character that reflects Jesus. He engaged with those on the margins, healed the sick, welcomed the outcasts, and challenged societal norms. The most important thing we do is love God and love people.
We are pioneering a real and fresh approach to church uniquely for the people of The Bay - where creativity, compassion, authenticity, belonging, and purpose come together to bring hope to our city. We would love for you to be a part of it.
The Gathering was founded in 2015 by Jesse & Liz Mendoza, who were longing for real and authentic faith community. A place that provided a safe place for all people from all backgrounds to experience God and find faith - unlike many overly religious & legalistic churches. They wanted to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Dave Herring & Jenn Buxton joined The Gathering leadership in 2021 to further the mission and vision. Having broken free from the mega-church world, they were longing for the same things. Searching for authenticity, truth, community, and healing.
We are ordinary, imperfect people who want to share the hope of Jesus, create opportunities for community, love people well, grow together, live authentically, pursue healing, and get back to the true gospel.
Who leads The Gathering?
We are a place for everyone. Period. That means you, with no limits. Wherever you are in life. Wherever you are with faith, religion, or spirituality. Whether you’ve never set foot in church before. Or maybe you’ve been hurt by a church before. Perhaps you feel desire for faith and community. Or maybe you’re just curious about who the real Jesus was - a dark-skinned refugee who died at the hands of the religious elite? Literally wherever you are, we want you to come as you are. You will find love & respect at The Gathering. So grab some coffee and have a seat at our table. Let’s journey, grow, learn, and look towards hope together.
Who is The Gathering for?
We keep it so real. No show or big production here. We prioritize community, relationships, truth, and authenticity. That said, even our schedule for the morning is flexible and pretty laid back. Join us from 10:30am-noon to meet new people, sing some songs together, hear an inspiring message, and deeply connect with others at tables.
What can we expect on Sunday?
We offer a fun, age-appropriate program for kids ages 2-6.
The kids program takes place during the adult service. Before their first time in kids class, simply register your child(ren) online ahead of time by clicking the link below, or arrive a little early to get them registered.
Do you have anything for Kids?
In essentials, unity
in non-essentials, liberty
in all things, love.
